DMV Food Drive Donations
Many families have lost their jobs or can’t afford buying food during the coronavirus crises. The American Halal Council has partnered with number of organizations and Islamic Centers in the DMV area and mobilizing the community to help those who are not able to provide for their families. We encourage you to donate what you can from the list below and drop it off at the nearest participating Food Drive drop off and pick up center list below.
Non-perishable foods and other items to donate
- Canned beans
- Dry beans
- Peanut butter, or other nut butters
- Rolled oats
- Canned fruit in juice, not in light or heavy syrup
- Canned vegetables, with no or low-sodium
- Low-sodium soups
- Canned tuna in water
- Canned halal meats if available
- Rice – Basmati, Jasmin, Uncle ben’s
- Shelf stable milk and milk substitutes
- Pastas
- Pasta sauce
- Canned halal stews if available
- Whole grain, low-sugar cold cereals
- Olive or canola oil
- Canned tomatoes
- Dried fruits, no sugar added
- Honey
- Chicken, beef and vegetable broths and stock
- Canned or dried ethnic foods
- Diapers, all sizes
